A statutory right, not a favor

Family reunification (ricongiungimento familiare) lets a non-EU national legally resident in Italy bring eligible relatives to live, work, study and access healthcare. Hold a residence permit of at least one year and meet the thresholds, and the right is yours.

Who can join you

Your spouse aged 18 or over, minor children (including stepchildren and adopted children), adult children dependent for documented health reasons, and parents aged 65 or over when no other child can support them at home.

Two gates: housing and income

A municipal certificate of housing suitability (idoneità alloggiativa) confirms surface and hygiene standards; your income must match the social allowance, plus 50 percent per extra member. A clean record is checked throughout.

It starts with the nulla osta

The first formal step is the nulla osta, applied for online at the Sportello Unico per l'Immigrazione (SUI) of your province. The statutory window is 90 days, though it varies in practice from one prefecture to the next.

From visa to arrival

Once the nulla osta is granted, your relative applies for the reunification visa at the Italian consulate at home. Within 8 days of arrival we file the permesso di soggiorno per motivi familiari, which matches your permit and allows work.

Reunite with those who matter

A confidential consultation to confirm eligibility, verify the housing and income thresholds, and map a realistic timeline for your specific household before anything is filed.
